A welcome addition to Political Science collections
Written by Shirley Williams who is the Leader of the Liberal Democrats in the House of Lords and a practicing Catholic, God & Caesar: Personal Reflections On Politics And Religion is a soul-searching discussion of the political process, both in the secular world and in the recently scandal-rocked Catholic Church hierarchy. The effects of globalization have left particular impact on public and political life the world over; God & Caesar offers insights on ways to balance the worldly with the spiritual on both a personal and a worldwide level. A welcome addition to Political Science collections, God & Caesar is based on the second annual Erasmus Lectures at the University of Notre Dame and highly recommended reading for Catholics as well as members of other Christian denominations with an interest in national and international affairs.

British version of Good housekeeping
My general experience is if you can find the good housekeeping cook book from various countries, you've hit pay dirt. This British version is no exception. Not only will you find well tested and tasty examples of traditional british foods, but you will also find the british VERSION of other popular foods. For example, anyone whose every ordered lasagna while traveling in england knows it tasts NOTHING like what we're used to here in the states, but its VERY tasty. This book has a recipie for that type of lasagna!

Throughly presents sustainable land development
This book throughly presents sustainable real estate development. It answers the basic questions of how, what, when, why and who with text and photos illustrating numerous case studies.

It is written for a wide and concerned audience, composed of real estate professionals, financiers and designers. This book is not technical. It is a conceptual book and guides the reader toward sustainable solutions.

This subject is very large and this book is necessarily a summary, which includes recent projects.

This book does not "preach to the choir". It addresses difficult obstacles to the sustainable development paradigm and provides workable solutions.

Greening the North: A Post-Industrial Blueprint for Ecology and Equity
Published in Hardcover by Zed Books (February, 1998)
Authors: Wolfgang Sachs, Reinhard Loske, Manfred Linz, Timothy Nevill, and Environment and Energy Wuppertal Institute for Climate
Average review score:

The "Bible" of the German Environmental Movement
This is definitely the book that has had the most important impact on the German debate on sustainable development in the 1990s. It starts with a quantitative analysis of the disproportionate share that Germany uses of the global environmental space. It furtheron envisions in a realistic manner how Germany could reduce its global impact, and how this could be accomplished while maintaining or even improving the quality of life for its citizens. It shows a wealth of creative new approaches for the transition towards a sustainable society, with an excellent mix of realism and the necessary long-term vision. This book was debated in hundreds of events all over Germany, sparked off an enormous public debate and a series of follow-up publications. It was definitely the most successful publication of the renowned Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy. One of its main authors, Reinhard Loske, is now the spokesperson on Environment of the German Greens in the national parliament. This book was called the "Bible" of the German environmental movement by the newspaper Spiegel. It is definitely essential reading for everyone interested in the crucial issue how industrial societies could make the transition towards sustainability.

Heinz Kohut Chicago Institute Lectures
Published in Hardcover by Analytic Press (April, 1996)
Authors: Marian Tolpin, Paul Tolpin, Heinz Kohut, and Marion Tolpin
Average review score:

Kohut's Practical Side
This collection of lectures is such a welcome change from his meticulously written texts. Kohut was a genius. This theories are brilliant - but his writing is complex, bordering on tangential. That's not a problem in this collection. Additionally, Kohut's theoretical explanation of self psychology is brought to life with many practical examples. In certain instances this text is like a "how-to" for the beginner and experienced to profit from. The most disturbing aspect of this work is how much longing it inspires. Those lucky advanced students got so much from a genius. They were priviledged to see his "real" and practical side. He let his guard down while filling their minds with the wisdom of his experience. You may find yourself wishing you were one of those lucky candidates at the Chicago Institute.
